Chamomile ~ Delicate Does Not Mean Fragile
Share
Yesterday I stood looking at the chamomile growing in my garden.
She looks so delicate. Tall, fine stems, tiny white petals, swaying with every movement of the wind. Almost fragile.
But she isn’t.
You can brush against her, bend her, even walk over her—and somehow she lifts herself back up and continues growing. There is a quiet strength in her softness.
When you look closely at a single flower, there is an entire little world there. Thousands of tiny seeds held within her golden centre, surrounded by the finest white petals. Intricate. Almost like sacred geometry.
I planted her from seed. I have watched her emerge, tended her, gathered her flowers and worked with her through the seasons. Somewhere along the way, you realize you’re not simply growing an ingredient.
You’re getting to know her.
Chamomile has her own presence in the garden. Her own rhythm. Her own song. Her own story.
She is gentle without being weak. Delicate without being fragile. Soft, yet remarkably resilient.
Perhaps that is part of what she has come to teach me:
Delicate does not mean fragile.
Softness can hold extraordinary strength.
This is where my skincare begins.
In relationship with the plants, in the garden, long before they ever reach the bottle.
